The Raven’s Nest

Whenever I use Tiger's Eye in a piece I'm always tempted to reference eyes or seeing in the name. This is no exception.  Tiger's Eye is a pretty powerful stone, and one of the gifts it bestows is insight into yourself or into the world around you. Beyond that, it's a beautiful stone and goes well with a variety of colors and styles.

The theme was Jill Sobule, the song and beads were chosen by readers.  The result: Rainy Day Parade.

Jade points and Rose Quartz nuggets are actually perfect for the theme of the song; a fun anthem about putting depression and the past behind you and celebrating no matter what life throws at you, even a rain storm.

The theme, chosen by readers, was Sanguine - red, ruddy, blood, circulation, warm, cheerful, optimistic, hopeful. Fire agate goes well with this theme, as the patterns in the beads are very vein-like, revealing skeins of dark red. I paired them with a green and cream-veined ceramic bead that represents the first inklings of spring.

The copper findings add a little more of the fire/blood element. The leather cord just looks good.

I first began using amethyst when I did mainly prayer bead work and I loved the stone for it's beauty and inherant properties. Handling amethyst always gave me a sense of calm, of tranqulity, and when I made my first necklace (very similar to this one) I knew I would use this stone so I could carry the feeling around with me all day.

The properties of pearl and amethyst compliment each other, just as they'll complment the wearer. When your day gets stressful and jaw-clenching, just twist the center bead between your fingers and think of the sea.

A snake has entered the garden.  It slithers amongst the greens and reds and browns of the earth, winding around and around. It's up to you whether this signifies danger, transgression, power, or growth.

This necklace is meant to be worn with the snake off-center.

Inspired by the song Smoke Dreams as sung by Jill Sobule. These earrings hang 3.75 inches total from sterling silver hooks and gently sway as you move. The smoky crystal discs catch the light as they turn, entracing anyone who happens to be under the influence (or small children).
