Wardiyas

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadow, to the edge of night
Until the stars are all alight
Until the stars are all alight.

Wardiya (Arabic for rosary) has its roots in the Semitic word ward, meaning rose. Many of the names for prayer beads across cultures have their roots in the word rose or rose garden, the symbolism being a place where one could go for quiet meditation and introspection. The linguistic root of ward means, among other things, “to blossom”, “to enter”, or “travel to”. That is why I chose this name for my longer prayer bead sets.

These are chains of 99 and 108 beads arranged in a variety of ways, incorporating elements from Malas, Tasbihs, and Rosaries. Patterns incorporating the numbers 3, 9, and 12 are abundant here and inform every design I make.

How you use your set to pray or meditate is completely up to you. There is no right or wrong way.
